Annotation

A true crime story as riveting and exciting as "Blow" or "Catch Me If You Can,"
No one could have predicted that a petty crime against Craig Glazer would be the catalyst for a life on the edge. But then again, nothing about Craig Glazer was predictable. A skinny Jewish kid from Kansas City, Glazer was attending Arizona State University when he was robbed while buying marijuana for his fraternity brothers. His head filled with lessons in crime and criminals learned from the movies, Craig decided to get even with the dealers who robbed him. He set up his first fake "sting," pretending to be law enforcement. Unbelievably, his plan worked, and it set him on a path that was as unlikely as it was dangerous.
He masterminded a two-year spree of stings that stretched from Boston, Chicago, and Cleveland to Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. Posing as everything from local police to IRS agents to hotel managers, he and his crew set up cons and raked in a fortune. Craig and partner Donald Woodbeck had such success that the Attorney General's office asked them for help ferreting out some of the most sought-after drug lords in the country. It was a dangerous double life. Like many other rags to riches stories, Craig's does not lead to a Hollywood happy ending. There was payback. Woodbeck was murdered and Craig landed in prison. "The King of Sting" is a story of wanting to be famous, even if it meant becoming infamous.

I read about this book online...cant remember the last great true crime story I read guess it would have to be the Mafia Crime Boss John Gotti which I thought was a cool story but it does not compare with The King of Sting. This story....about a modern day outlaw which takes place in Arizona during the first part of the book grapped me from page one. I am a adrenaline junkie and in real life I get my kicks playing in a rock band, driving fast race cars & bungee jumping and none of that equals what this crazy Glazer guy did. His entire life he robbed drug dealers, mostly Mexicans, posing as law enforcement. What caught my attention was not the fact of the posing as cops but the level to which he took it to with his partner Don Woodbeck. The phoney badge thing is nothing new, however, considering Glazer was around 18 when he started, the fact that his team dressed out with real equipment, cb radios, emblems on cars ect. was unique. Just the stings alone in the first part of the book would have made a great tale but I felt like a junkie hooked on this story wanting more and boy did it deliver. These lunatics in Kansas gave Glazer and Woodbeck real badges and let them be real undercover cops and it is all true! I was really sad to read of Woodbecks murder towards the end of the book but you know the old saying "Live by the sword Die by the sword" I bet he died with his boots on. Glad Glazer lived to tell the tale. Whatever you do if you like rock-n-roll music, outlaw life style and living outside the norm this could become your favorite book ever.
