No matter how messy, beginnings are exciting. Especially when what happens next endures the test of time. For Devo, the beginning happened in the basements and garages of Akron, Ohio. The songs they wrote were raw and unfiltered with no commercial intent. They called it Hardcore Devo. Performing 21 oddities, this is a tribute to departed, original Devo bandmate, Robert Bob 2 Casale. A: We Are Devo! Was a seminal touchstone in the development of American new wave. It was one of the first pop albums to use synthesizers as an important textural element, an innovation that began to lay the groundwork for the synthesizer-pop explosion that would follow very shortly. Q: Are We Not Men also revived the absurdist social satire of the Mothers of Invention, claiming punk rock's outsider alienation as a home for freaks and geeks. While Devo's appeal was certainly broader, their sound was tailored well enough to that sensibility that it still resonates with a rabid cult following. The album featured some of Devo's most memorable work with Uncontrollable Urge, the incredible cover of (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, Mongoloid and Jocko Homo.

Tracks:
1.1 Uncontrollable Urge
1.2 (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
1.3 Praying Hands
1.4 Space Junk
1.5 Mongoloid
1.6 Jocko Homo
1.7 Too Much Paranoias
1.8 Gut Feeling/(Slap Your Mammy)
1.9 Come Back Jonee
1.10 Sloppy (I Saw My Baby Gettin')
1.11 Shrivel-Up
1.12 Uncontrollable Urge [Live]
1.13 (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction [Live]
1.14 Praying Hands [Live]
1.15 Space Junk [Live]
1.16 Mongoloid [Live]
1.17 Jocko Homo [Live]
1.18 Too Much Paranoias [Live]
1.19 Gut Feeling/(Slap Your Mammy) [Live]
1.20 Come Back Jonee [Live]
1.21 Sloppy (I Saw My Baby Gettin') [Live]
1.22 Shrivel-Up [Live]
Title: Q: Are We Not Men
Artist: Devo
Label: Warner Records
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 075992736428
Genre: Pop
Release Date: 1990-10-25
Number of Discs: 1

Is this not a new wave classic?! Recorded live on June 28, 2014 at the Fox Theater in Oakland, California. This nostalgic June 28, 2014, performance from the Fox Theater in Oakland finds the legendary Devo revisiting the raw, unfiltered early songs they themselves call hardcore Devo. After years of requests, Futurismo are thrilled to announce a brand new limited pressing of the DEVO's incredible Recombo DNA 4xLP with Mini CD Set, plus also available is a brand new 3xCD version. For decades Devo have been working non-stop at Recombo DNA Laboratories on a new kind of research to keep up with the mutating world around us. That extensive research is now ready for public consumption once again. Futurismo were the first to bring you this on vinyl and now they present unhindered access into Devo's labs, documenting the scientific analysis and demonstrations as conducted by the band between the years 1977-2008. This tireless research has manifested itself in Recombo DNA... an unmissable collection of studio demos and unreleased rare tracks that span Devo's entire recording career, from their original basement days to their famed 'Freedom Of Choice' era, right the way through to unused demos from their last studio album. Produced by Ken Scott. The album followed their groundbreaking debut, Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! (1978), and continued their exploration of mechanical, futuristic, and satirical themes. The album leans further into synthesizer-driven sounds while still maintaining their jagged, robotic punk energy. It expands on their themes of de-evolution, consumerism and social control, blending quirky humour with a more polished, synthetic production style. New Traditionalists is the fourth studio album by DEVO, released on August 26, 1981. Produced by Roy Thomas Baker & DEVO. This album marked a shift towards a darker, more polished and synth-heavy sound compared to their earlier work, reflecting their growing disillusionment with mainstream culture. New Traditionalists leans heavily into synth-pop and electronic rock, featuring colder, more mechanical production. The themes focus on conformity, societal decline and de-evolution, but with a more serious, dystopian tone than their earlier satirical works. The band also introduced a new visual aesthetic, wearing grey 'Utopian Boy' uniforms and distinctive plastic 'New Traditionalist Pomp' wigs, inspired by John F. Now available as a 3xLP in an limited audiophile pressing of 'Audio Viz' Black vinyl. The release all hardcore Devo fans have been waiting for, ART DEVO is a vital collection housing unheard and obscure mind blowers sourced directly from the vaults of The De-Evolution Band. This anthology takes you from the bands initial conception in Akron, Ohio to the moment before the world woke up, in a collection of sonic and visual art that captures Devo at the dawn of industrial death. In honor of their 50th Anniversary, ART DEVO showcases the mesmerizing evolution of a band on the brink of discovery, mining irony, wit and dark humor from the madness of a distorted modern world still coming to terms with aftermath of a collapsed economy and the Vietnam war. From 1973-1977 Devo would transform from an art project, pop art in the literal sense, into the group David Bowie would declare the band of the future. Here you will find the audio mutations of a band at the edge of greatness, initial concepts that gave birth to a new aesthetic that continually challenged preconceptions about music, art, performance, culture, composition and consumption... it was also the birth of Booji Boy. While the songs here may not be fully grown, raw even, these are the seeds of subversion that kickstarted Devo's fifty year legacy.Spanning 3xLP's almost completely unheard and unreleased material, this collection draws purely from that integral early history, garnered from unearthed basement recordings, original demo tapes, unfinished montages and rare live audio, all taken from the bands personal archive. This collection showcases why Devo was, and is still, one of the most important bands in American history. De-evolution is real. The art of DEVO is real. Never before released, or heard in it's entirety, this legendary live performance is presented here in it's full chaotic glory on limited edition 2xLP and 2xCD.The live release all hardcore Devo fans have been waiting for, Nitrous Nightmare demonstrates a band harnessing their artistic greatness in the purest of forms. This mythic performance captures Devo perfecting some of their most iconic concepts in the raw. Expertly restored, this live recording makes for a thrilling experience, it also captures Devo as a lightning rod for hostility. On Halloween 1975, Devo took the stage at the WHK Auditorium in Cleveland, in a supporting capacity for jazz legend Sun Ra, to perform for a raucous crowd dressed in the finest of Halloween cliché. Already riding high on Nitrous Oxide and booze supplied by the sponsoring radio station, this unaware horde was expecting to see a slick cover band churning out renditions of Bad Company hits, only to be subjected to an act of subversive performance art that would send the growingly aggravated crowd into eventual meltdown. Physical threats ensued, but Devo played on.Acting as a live companion release to Futurismo's much lauded Art Devo, the track list featured here showcases the origins of de-evolution theory in a live setting. These songs would become some of their most famous material, with this recording believed to be the very first time 'Jocko Homo' was performed in front of a live audience; the full 12-minute version documented here is sure to please fans, even if it displeased the urban hippies and horror masked onlookers that evening. Whilst Devo may have felt they were trapped inside a negative energy vortex during that era; it is clear in retrospect that the band was using this energy to carve out the genesis of a sonic and visual art that has truly stood the test of time. The music performed that evening would mutate culture for decades to come, long after the denizens of the auditorium packed away their cheap vampire costumes and returned to their day jobs.Spanning 2xCD's of unreleased live material, most of which has never been heard before, this wondrous performance draws purely from that integral early history. Mixed and mastered directly from recordings kept in the band's personal vaults, this live collection showcases why Devo was, and still is, one of the most important bands in American history. Ranked the 252nd Greatest Album of All Time by Rolling Stone and amid the 100 best efforts of the 1970s by Pitchfork, Devo's radical debut helped steer the new wave movement that followed. Though Brian Eno butted heads with the band during the recording process, the merits of his production emerge like never before. The sonic treatments that turn Devo's keyboards into the equivalent of futuristic machines; the metallic effects and pointed sharpness of the percussion; the crispness of the arrangements; the herky-jerk motion of the singing; the stickiness of the bizarre time signatures: Q: Are We Not Men? Sourced from the original master tapes, pressed at Fidelity Record Pressing, and housed in a Stoughton gatefold jacket, Mobile Fidelity's 180g 45RPM 2LP set presents the 1977 benchmark in reference-grade sound. Benefitting from the extra groove space on this first-ever 45RPM version by playing with enhanced definition, deep-black backgrounds, and ultra-quiet surfaces, it reveals previously buried nuances and portrays large soundstages.
