Figure 8 is the fifth studio album by Elliott Smith, and the final album he completed before his death. It was recorded from 1998 to 2000 at numerous studios and released on April 18, 2000 through DreamWorks Records. Preceded by the singles Happiness and Son of Sam, Figure 8 was Smith's second release on a major label. Initially titled Place Pigalle, Figure 8 was recorded at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, Sonora Studios in Los Angeles, Capitol Studios in Hollywood and Abbey Road Studios in London. Smith described the songs on the album as more fragmented and dreamlike. With Figure 8, Smith attempted to create a happy-sounding record.

Tracks:
1.1 Son of Sam
1.2 Somebody That I Used to Know
1.3 Junk Bond Trader
1.4 Everything Reminds Me of Her
2.1 Everything Means Nothing to Me
2.2 L.A
2.3 In the Lost and Found (Honky Bach)/The Roost
2.4 Stupidity Tries
3.1 Easy Way Out
3.2 Wouldn't Mama Be Proud
3.3 Colorbars
3.4 Happiness
4.1 The Gondola Man
4.2 Pretty Mary Kay
4.3 Better Be Quiet Now
4.4 Can't Make a Sound
4.5 Bye
Title: Either / Or
Artist: Elliott Smith
Label: Kill Rock Stars
Product Type: VINYL LP
UPC: 759656062015
Genre: Rock
Release Date: 2017-03-10
Number of Discs: 2
Additional Details: GATEFOLD LP JACKET-EXPANDED VERSION

Double vinyl LP pressing in a gatefold jacket that includes an insert of the original liner notes, a postcard of the original master tapes, and several never-before seen photos. XO is the fourth studio album by singer/songwriter Elliott Smith. It was recorded from 1997 to 1998 and released on August 25, 1998 by record label DreamWorks; Smith's first solo album on a major record label. Two singles, Waltz #2 (XO) and Baby Britain, were released. An early working title for the album was Grand Mal. The title of the first track, Sweet Adeline, was inspired by Smith's recollections of his grandmother singing in her glee club, Sweet Adelines International. Amity is believed to be named after a friend who can be seen in photographs from Smith's 1997 tour. XO was well received by critics upon it's release. Mark Richardson of Pitchfork Media wrote, Smith's songwriting continues to improve, as each of [the album's] fourteen tracks displays his inarguable mastery of the pop song structure more clearly than ever. In it's retrospective review, BBC Music wrote, the budget might have gone up, but Smith's masterful way with an understated melody and melancholic lyric remained firmly intact, calling XO perhaps the greatest long-player Smith released; if not, it's certainly the equal of the preceding Either/Or. To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of this masterpiece, Kill Rock Stars proudly presents Either/Or: Expanded Edition. This album features the original tracks carefully remastered from original tapes under the supervision of Larry Crane, owner of Jackpot! Studios and archivist of the Estate of Elliott Smith. The additional content features five live multi-track recordings from the Yo Yo A Go Go Festival in Olympia WA in 1997, as well as three previously unreleased studio recordings and one b-side gem. The double LP is packaged in a gatefold jacket that includes an insert of the original liner notes, a postcard of the original master tapes, and several never-before seen photos. The album features 14 tracks compiled from all 7 of Elliott Smith's albums (including his albums on Geffen and Domino): 'Roman Candle', 'Elliott Smith', 'Either/Or', 'XO', 'Figure 8', 'From a Basement on the Hill', and 'New Moon'. 'An Introduction to...' is, as the title suggests, intended as an introduction to one of the greatest songwriters of our era. Elliot rose to semi-mainstream success in 1997, when director Gus Van Sant used some of his songs in the film 'Good Will Hunting'. We had so much fun with that project that we've decided for 2021 to celebrate our 30th anniversary by expanding the idea to encompass the entire Kill Rock Stars release history. - We've got so many amazing artists onboard already, including much of the current KRS roster, along with lots of folks from our extended family and even some new friends! Roman Candle is now remastered for the re-release by Roger Seibel (SAE) and Larry Crane, editor of Tape Op Magazine and archivist for Elliott's family. Roman Candle had quite an impact on Slim Moon, Kill Rock Stars'founder: In 1994, I had been asked to be on this five-person solo-act tour called Pop Chord with Tammy Watson, Carrie Akre, Sean Croghan and Elliott Smith. The first night at the Crocodile in Seattle, I didn't pay too much attention and people talked all thru Elliott's set. Sean Croghan got up next and said all of you people who just talked through Elliott's set are bummed because you just missed something very, very special. The next night of the tour, at The Bottom Of The Hill in San Francisco, I listened very closely to Elliott's set, and it was basically one of those lifechanging moments. Instead of watching the rest of the performers, I went out to the tour van and popped Roman Candle into the player, and listened to it on endless repeat for the rest of the evening and beyond. It completely blew my mind. I have never heard music as heartwrenchingly, gut-checkingly honest, intimate, and wise - before or since.

Tracks:
1.1 Roman Candle
1.2 Condor Ave
1.3 No Name #1
1.4 No Name #2
1.5 No Name #3
1.6 Drive All Over Town
1.7 No Name #4
1.8 Last Call
1.9 Kiwi Maddog 20/20
Title: Elliott Smith
Artist: Elliott Smith
Label: Kill Rock Stars
Product Type: CASSETTES
UPC: 708857024674
Genre: Rock
Release Date: 2026-10-02
Number of Discs: 1

When you hear it Elliott's way you know it to be true.
