Made up of piano, this shows Basinski's patented tape-loop technique perfectly and still stands as one of his most affecting pieces of music. If you've heard 'Melancholia' you'll likely know what I'm talking about, piano notes are transformed into tones by the slowly disintegrating tape, and the loops become motifs all of their own. The beauty of Basinski's work is in it's patience, and this early piece is a testament to that overwhelming skill, a skill that few others possess.

Tracks:
1.1 Red Score in Tile

Audio Sample:
All soundclips are provided by Tidal and are for illustrative purposes only. These works utilize, among other things, exclusive source recordings from the interferometers of LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) capturing the sounds of the merging of two distant massive black holes, 1.3 billion years ago. The CD and Digital formats feature two tracks: The 40-minute title track, On Time Out of Time, as well as 4(E+D)4(ER+EPR), a live track recorded during the aforementioned installation. The vinyl LP format features two exclusive mixes of the title track: On Time Out of Time on the a-side; and On Time Out of Time (The Lovers) on the b-side, made especially for the vinyl format.

Tracks:
1.1 On Time Out of Time
1.2 4(E+D)4(Er=Epr)
Title: Cascade
Artist: William Basinski
Label: 2062
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 656605570723
Genre: Rock
Release Date: 2015-04-28
Number of Discs: 1

Cascade and The Deluge are variations on the latest tape-loop and delay composition from the inimitable William Basinski. More than any other work since The Disintegration Loops, there is an ominous grief throughout the album, and that sense of loss lingers like an emotional vapor.Captured and constructed from tape loops and studies from Basinski's archives - dating back to 1979 - Lamentations is over forty years of mournful sighs meticulously crafted into songs. They are shaped by the inevitable passage of time and the indisputable collapsing of space - and their collective resonance is infinite and eternal.

Tracks:
1.1 For Whom the Bell Tolls
1.2 The Wheel of Fortune
1.3 Paradise Lost
1.4 Tear Vial
1.5 O, My Daughter, O, My Sorrow
1.6 Passio
1.7 Punch and Judy
1.8 Silent Spring
1.9 Transfiguration
1.10 All These Too, I, I Love
1.11 Please, This Shit Has Got to Stop
1.12 Fin
William Basinski: Melancholia - More than any other work since The Disintegration Loops, there is an ominous grief throughout the album, and that sense of loss lingers like an emotional vapor.Captured and constructed from tape loops and studies from Basinski's archives - dating back to 1979 - Lamentations is over forty years of mournful sighs meticulously crafted into songs. They are shaped by the inevitable passage of time and the indisputable collapsing of space - and their collective resonance is infinite and eternal.

Tracks:
1.1 For Whom the Bell Tolls
1.2 The Wheel of Fortune
1.3 Paradise Lost
1.4 Tear Vial
1.5 O, My Daughter, O, My Sorrow
1.6 Passio
1.7 Punch and Judy
1.8 Silent Spring
1.9 Transfiguration
1.10 All These Too, I, I Love
1.11 Please, This Shit Has Got To Stop
1.12 Fin
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2976/0132/files/3858379-2648019_a9d9355e-f816-4e98-93be-02cbc21a7bba.jpg?v=1722770479
basinski-william-september-23rd
William Basinski: September 23rd - VINYL LP
Title: September 23rd
Artist: William Basinski
Label: Temporary Residence
Product Type: VINYL LP
UPC: 656605443515
Genre: Electronic
Release Date: 2024-10-11
Number of Discs: 1

September 23rd is the first release in William Basinski's new Arcadia Archive series. To commemorate it's 10-year anniversary, we presented the first-ever vinyl edition of this otherworldly piece of music. Remastered from the original recordings and pressed onto audiophile-quality 100% pure virgin vinyl, this limited-edition vinyl reissue is packaged in a gorgeous old-style tip-on gatefold jacket featuring all-new artwork by James Elaine. It is truly a sight and sound to behold. Like many of Basinski's most soul-stirring works, Melancholia began as a series of short tape loops captured in the early 1980s. Basinski then stored them away for decades, revisiting them at a different time in his life, at which point they took on a stunning new sound all their own - one that many consider to be among the finest of this century.

Tracks:
1.1 Melancholia I
1.2 Melancholia II
1.3 Melancholia III
1.4 Melancholia IV
1.5 Melancholia V
1.6 Melancholia VI
1.7 Melancholia VII
1.8 Melancholia VIII
1.9 Melancholia IX
1.10 Melancholia X
1.11 Melancholia X
1.12 Melancholia XII
1.13 Melancholia XIII
1.14 Melancholia XIV
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2976/0132/files/4244974-3271141_01eb9ed9-3835-4b33-aa79-0930bce9679c.jpg?v=1727522556
basinski-william-nocturnes
William Basinski: Nocturnes - COMPACT DISCS
Title: Nocturnes
Artist: William Basinski
Label: Temporary Residence
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 656605584041
Genre: Rock
Release Date: 2003-05-15
Number of Discs: 1

Like his best and most iconic works, the magic of William Basinski's new album, Nocturnes, is in the glacial, inevitable decay of something beautiful. Tape loops of prepared piano - composed and recorded more than 30 years ago - reflecting, refracting, and disintegrating into a haunting sentimental haze, like losing a vivid memory to the natural deterioration of time. Composer William Basinski's deteriorating analog tape loops evolved from melodic symphonies to melancholic silence over a span of time that uncannily turned passing minutes into pensive lifetimes. In her foreword for the new box set reissue of The Disintegration Loops, the pioneering multimedia storyteller, Laurie Anderson, describes the impact of this transformation in poetic detail: These dissolving sounds, this emptying space, has gained my complete confidence. They are taking me somewhere. I am willingly following these sounds, becoming more and more transparent. The Disintegration Loops - Arcadia Archive Edition is an expansive new box set that includes the entire 5-hour suite of iconic work. Newly remastered from the original recordings by Josh Bonati, the hefty package includes eight vinyl records (or four CDs for the less analog-inclined) in sturdy full-color jackets featuring the restored original artwork, and a new 1000-word foreword by Laurie Anderson - all housed in a striking heavyweight, case-wrapped box. This exchange - called passing the cup of sorrows - became the unexpected inspiration for William Basinski's first new album in six years. While sinking deeper into the daily abyss of our collective negativity bias, William Basinski stumbled upon a video describing the spiritual hypnotherapy exercise known as passing the cup of sorrows. Fixed on the glow of a screen that projected mounting anxiety and cynicism at a seemingly interminable pace, Basinski found the testimonials of this fascinating therapeutic practice to be profoundly moving. He sat at his piano, translating the transformation of those traumatic memories of past lives into cathartic tears of the present day. Channeling the quiet curiosity and asymmetrical patterns of pioneering 20th Century composer, Morton Feldman, Passing the Cup of Sorrows is a single 40-minute piece that employs a solitary piano and subtle electronics to truly haunting effect.
