His songwriting is influenced by heartbreak, people's stories, and personal experiences. Songs like \" Aged Rodeo\", stemmed from real life experiences as a former bull rider; and \"Flag Draped Box\" is influenced from his experiences in Afghanistan, and the men he served with.
