Remember how a song would make you get up, jump around the room and sing along with the lyrics. (At least the "hook" part)? Remember when songs had melodies that seemed to take you somewhere and you kept humming them to yourself all day? How about those albums you had on tape that made long automobile trips seem a lot shorter? You know, driving music. Do you recall when lyrics became an important part of a song? Barry Jo and the Cheeters do! Barry Betts can flat-out sing. He also wrote the songs for this CD. Creative guitar riffs just seem to flow off the fingers of Rick Rhoads. He goes wild on Down the Road and then jazzes it up on Pretend...a touch of country on Break Your Heart. Midwest rocker Wade Hillman provides the solid bass throughout the record, skills learned through decades of experience in three-piece bands. Pat Betts, the only drummer brother Barry would use on this CD, provides the beat on his beloved DW drums. Luckily for this band Pat had just finished a nation-wide tour with the Damon Fowler Band and was willing to give up life in Florida to do the sessions. Barry's friend, Jim Westin, provided many tasty piano renderings on several songs. Check out the Pretend, No Disgrace, NO Shame and Runaway tracks. Barry Jo and the Cheeters were fortunate to discover Jarico Studios of Rockford, Il. The extremely skilled engineer, Matt Zilm was like a sixth member of the band, sometimes knowing the arrangements better than the band did. Check out the engineering on Pat's drums. Matt and owner Frank Mantello did much to make the band feel at home during the six months of creative sessions Edgewater Park is the only kind of music these guys could create. It's in their past, present and future......their musical blood. Yeah, there are some serious songs here, but we don't have to beat ourselves up over it........let's have fun.
