Sept 2012 Update! The title song from this album, 'City of Love/Ahavat Olam', has just been selected as a finalist to be performed at the 5th Shalshelet Festival for New Jewish Music, being held in February 2013 in Miami. *************** The daughter of nightclub musicians, Beth Hamon is a bicycle riding, autodidactic singer-songwriter whose original material straddles the fuzzy line between Jewish and secular themes of social justice and peace. She serves as a youth and family songleader and religious school instructor at Congregation Beth Israel in Portland, Oregon and is also a music-leader at Havurah Shalom in Portland. When not teaching, performing or writing songs, Beth can be found plying her other trade as a bicycle mechanic. She is also a visual artist whose folk-art Judaica (made from recycled bicycle components) is in the permanent collection of the Yeshiva University Museum in New York. Beth serves Jewish congregations and camps as an artist-in-residence; is a repeat performer at the Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle; and performs regularly in coffeehouses and pubs in the Portland/Vancouver area. Her music enjoys airplay on multiple online and radio sources including Butterflies Radio.com and WISA's Kol Isha program which showcases Jewish music by women artists. Beth holds a B. A. from Portland State University and has over twenty-five years of teaching experience in the fields of high school instrumental music, Judaic Studies and Hebrew. She is a member of the Women Cantors' Network and the Guild of Temple Musicians. Beth has released the self-produced CD, City of Love and is at work on a second CD of original Jewish folk/roots music. 'There's nothing else like it! It's bright acoustic pop and folk, performed with hearty, honest joy.' --Tom Petersen, Victory Review Magazine "Very melodic!  Beth Hamon takes a fresh, hip approach to contemporary Jewish music." --Cantor Wally Schachet-Briskin '...with melodies that make you want to sing.' --Sari Peterson, CD Baby.
