Gareth Wilson studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and Edinburgh University and at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He became a Fellow there, and subsequently lecturer, in Academic Studies between 2000 and 2004. At the same time, he joined the Music Department at King's College London and, in 2012, was appointed an academic professor at the Royal College of Music.
