Dashiell, Jr. - bass/keys Jeff Bair - saxophones Carroll V. Dashiell, III - drums Jon Ozment - piano/keys (Live Performances Only) 1.) "Heir To The Throne" - Title track written for my son CV Dashiell, III when he was 2 years old. Never thought he would be playing on the track and kicking the band this hard. "A proud moment for me." By the way; he was only 14 years old when we tracked this cut. 2.) "Love's A Holiday" - Funky driving tune with soaring sax. Chopping keys suggests how strong a good love can be with bumps in the road but with a steady groove. 3.) "Gentle Bossa" - Nice easy medium slow dance groove. Curl up in front of the fire place with that special someone and let the melody and sax take you on an intimate journey of love. 4.) "CV's Grape Cool-Aid" - Funk, (medium groove) excursion between bass and drums. Remember how great grape cool-aid tastes. Tastes real good but it also has that little "kick and twang" in it's taste with a little after-taste too. Makes you get up and move. "Father and son put it in the pocket!" CV likes this tempo. 5.) "Island Orient" - Nice easy groove with the stereotypical Asian Orient melody line but with a Virgin Island dancing groove and feel. Reggae meets Orient. "Ya Man!" 6.) "CVD's Red Punch" - Funk, (fast groove) excursion between bass and drums. Remember how great red cool-aid tastes. Tastes real good but when you grow up, you can't call it cool-aid anymore. It becomes punch! Doesn't quite have that "kick and twang" that grape cool-aid has; goes down faster yet smoother. "Father and son put it in the pocket a little faster!" CVD likes this tempo. 7.) "Fantod" - It's all about life. It's hectic, sometimes CRAZY but it keeps on going with many pauses and stops along the way until you finally come to one resting point. That's fantod with a continuous contemporary montuno. Drums and sax take you on a life trip while the bass and keys stay the course. 8.) "Never" (Live) - Nice-warm-lush love ballad that gets a little funky toward the end. Smooth sax melody with a quote from "You Make Me Feel Brand New" in the sax solo. Originally recorded on "I've Paid My Dues" 1986 by Carroll Dashiell and the CVD Ensemble. This version is from a live performance at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. 9.) "Cameron" (Live) - Wrote this for my oldest daughter when she was 2 years old. Funky walking-loaping bass line just like a toddler bumping around with a happy carefree sax melody and solo with happy chord changes. Originally recorded on "I've Paid My Dues" 1986 by Carroll Dashiell and the CVD Ensemble. This version is from a live performance at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. 10.) "Between The Lines" (Live) - High energy show opener where the chord changes move acting as a melody and the melody sustains and stays stagnant acting as chord changes with a driving bass and rock-like drums. This version is from a live performance at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
