Beginning his career in the early days of jazz in the late '20s, he became a major figure during the swing and big band eras spanning WWII, but also made a significant contribution to the bebop scene into the 1950s. His distinctive but highly adaptable style and sound enabled him to perform over the years in small bands and large orchestras alike both as sideman, leader and featured soloist, and this collection draws on examples of all those elements of his career, from his early recordings with Fletcher Henderson's Orchestra in 1927 through to bebop sessions alongside lush recordings with strings in the mid-'50s. It's a great value 48-track 2-CD, and along the way, there are contributions from many great names of the genre, too numerous to list here, but including Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, Cozy Cole, J.J. Johnson, Charlie Christian, Benny Carter, and many more. It's a worthy addition to the Fabulous label's Jazz Legends series. It does not duplicate any tracks included on our existing Fabulous label Coleman Hawkins CD 'Bean Soup' (FABCD 136).

Tracks:
1.1 St. Louis Shuffle
1.2 Wherever There's a Will, There's a Way
1.3 One Hour
1.4 Hello Lola!
1.5 Sugar Foot Stomp
1.6 Donegal Cradle Song
1.7 Firebird
1.8 Queer Notions
1.9 Jamaica Shout
1.10 Day You Came Along
1.11 Hocus Pocus
1.12 Chicago [Live "Casino Hamdorff", Laren, Holland August 26, 1935] [Live]
1.13 Meditation [Live "Casino Hamdorff", Laren, Holland August 26, 1935] [Li
1.14 Honeysuckle Rose
1.15 One Sweet Letter from You
1.16 Body and Soul
1.17 She's Funny That Way
1.18 Fine Dinner
1.19 Meet Doctor Foo
1.20 My Blue Heaven
1.21 Bouncing with Bean
1.22 Sheik of Araby
1.23 When Day Is Done
1.24 One O'Clock Jump
2.1 Bugle Call Rag
2.2 Crazy Rhythm
2.3 I'm in the Mood for Love
2.4 Hallelujah
2.5 Beyond the Blue Horizon
2.6 Embraceable You
2.7 Beat
2.8 When Day Is Done
2.9 It's the Talk of the Town
2.10 Spotlite
2.11 Low Flame
2.12 Say It Isn't So
2.13 Indian Summer
2.14 Bean-A-Re-Bop
2.15 You Were Meant for Me
2.16 April in Paris
2.17 Half Step Down Please
2.18 How Strange
2.19 I Love You
2.20 Jumpin' for Jane
2.21 Angel Face
2.22 Sweethearts on Parade
2.23 39-25-39 (Bean ; the Boys) [Webster Hall, New York, January 18, 1956] [
2.24 Essence of Jazz [Webster Hall, New York, January 20, 1956] [Live]
