This musical liturgy was first formulated for the 1549 Book of Common Prayer, using elements of the monastic services of Vespers and Compline. The Choir of the Church of the Incarnation in Dallas sings this service using the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, a rarity in the United States. Included in this recording is Herbert Howells' last set of Evensong canticles (Magnificat, Nunc dimittis), which were commissioned by Larry Palmer for this choir. Scott Dettra, former organist of the Washington National Cathedral, is a brilliant choral director whose choirs have been featured on national radio broadcasts in the United States and the United Kingdom. He has prepared choirs for the National Symphony Orchestra, The Juilliard Orchestra, and the Dave Brubeck Quartet, among others.

Tracks:

Audio Sample:
All soundclips are provided by Tidal and are for illustrative purposes only.
