His compositions demonstrate his strong interest in Lithuanian folk-music and often contain a personal element. His Symphony No. 2 reflects his experiences on a visit to the former Czechoslovakia, and Zenklas (The Sign) sets a poem by Mindaugas Tomonis, whose death in the Soviet period it commemorates.
