The impact made on the world of double bass playing by international virtuoso and pedagogue François Rabbath has been regularly compared to that of Paganini on the violin. Scores of great symphonic musicians, soloists, teachers, and jazz musicians have come to Paris to study his Nouvelle Technique. A follow-up to the critically lauded Art of the Bow, The Art of the Left Hand (2010) took an additional five years to complete. Biomechanics technology and animation software had developed at a fast pace and Hans Sturm and François Rabbath were eager to utilize the innovations in the creation of a new DVD. The format of this new project is similar to the first and includes interviews, live unedited unaccompanied studio performances, and lecture demonstrations. The Art of the Left Hand, however, is a two-DVD set. The second DVD features animations presented in three user-selectable camera angles throughout with each demonstration shown four times in succession on each video stream for a total of 12 camera angles. The American String Teacher Journal called the DVD 'the greatest audio/visual pedagogical tool ever developed' and The Strad raved that 'Whether you are a keen amateur or serious professional, no bass player's education is complete without having experienced Rabbath's demonstrations.'
