Stan Freberg was one of America's foremost satirists during the 1950s and his sublime parodies of then current pop music hits are almost as well-known as some of the hits he lampooned. Pop parodies aplenty. Listen to Stan take on Johnnie Ray's massive international hit, \"Cry\" with \"Try\", Les Paul \u0026amp; Mary Ford's \"The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise\", Eartha Kitt's, \"C'est Si Bon\", The Chords, \"Sh-Boom\", Mitch Miller's \"The Yellow Rose Of Texas\", The Platter's \"The Great Pretender\" and Lonnie Donegan's \"Rock Island Line\". The latter became his biggest UK hit and remained a staple, as did many of his records, on British radio for many years. The most popular of which was probably \"Day-O, The Banana Boat Song\" which had been a major hit for Harry Belafonte. This is a superb overview of a remarkable and indeed hysterically funny career and despite the age of these recordings they remain almost as funny as they were when released over fifty years ago.
