Whilst composing the Rite of Spring for Diaghilev Stravinsky broke off it's composition to write Petrushka the story of a puppet suddenly brought to life. Choreography was by Fokin and Nijinsky danced the title role. It remains one of the twentieth century's greatest ballets. Using music from Acts I and II of his opera Le rossignol Stravinsky's Song of the Nightingale is a brilliantly orchestrated symphonic poem richly evoking Chinese music and the allure of the Orient.

Tracks:
1.1 Tableau 1: The Shrove - Tide Fair 00:10:10
1.2 Tableau 2: Petrushka's Cell 00:04:24
1.3 Tableau 3: The Moor's Cell 00:07:01
1.4 Tableau 4: The Shrove - Tide Fair (Evening) 00:14:24
1.5 Introduction 00:02:26
1.6 Marche Chinoise 00:03:29
1.7 Le Chant Du Rossignol 00:03:24
1.8 Le Jeu Du Rossignol Mecanique 00:11:42

Audio Sample:
All soundclips are provided by Tidal and are for illustrative purposes only.
