Kalima were formed in late 1983 from the ashes of the Swamp Children, whose sole album was reissued by LTM in 2004. Purveyors of smooth latin, jazz and funk flavours, the band released three albums on Factory between 1986 and 1990, and earned widespread respect for their vaulting ambition and commitment to forms soon discarded by the superficial 'New Jazz' movement of the mid 1980s.
