Singer, songwriter, pianist and sax player - Krisanne Crowell does it all, and she does it with style. With her roots as tenor player in horn fired jump blues bands, and a Humber College diploma in jazz piano performance and arranging, Krisanne has honed diverse skills over the years of performing and bandleading to create her exciting debut CD. The songs on Right in the Middle of Wrong represent some 20 years of her writing - often tunes that were shelved and later reworked with constant attention to getting the right feel whle perfecting the arrangements and horn lines. Her performance career began with 8 piece jump blues band, The Floorboards, for whom she penned the horn arrangements, and first performed her debut single Stuck on You (track no. 1) This tune stands out as a crowd favorite, and an example of her smooth, jazzy vocal style, and exciting horn arranging. The Floorboards garnered an East Coast Music Award in 1991. This was also the era during which the comically morbid lyrics for Undertaker Blues (track 10) were written by her mother, Joan, in response to a local funeral parlor scandal. Krisanne put music to it and tried it out in Floorboard rehearsals but it never quite got off the ground. It was later reworked into it's present driving form with burning guitar and organ solos. Health Hazard (track 3) also came out of this time, with a wry commentary on the lack of 'just right' companionship to be had by a woman of diverse needs. This was also shelved and later revamped to a lively grooving tune with a New Orleans feel that she has performed often with her jazz vocal harmony trio, The Tritones. Her collaboration with international drumming sensation Dave James as a member of The Jazz Hoods and The David James Orchestra marked the beginning of a new phase of artistic growth for Krisanne - and a fresh drive to spearhead her own musical projects. She created the Latin/Funk/Jazz group, K.C. and the Sunshine Men, featuring her own arrangements and original compositions performed by an all-star band. Her first studio experience was with the Mike Oliver Band, for whom she played tenor and arranged the horns for the title track, Gimme All Your Money, which helped prepare for her own CD recording experience. With the passing of Floorboard's vocalist and blues mentor, Theo Hilfiker, Krisanne was motivated to compile her compositions as well as two of Theo's and record music representing the era of her life that was captivated by infectious, grooving blues, featuring her well crafted horn arrangements and tongue- in-cheek vocals. By collaborating with lyricist, Peggy MacKinnon on two unfinished drafts, she completed the hard hitting jump blues romp, The Creeper, and the haunting Right In the Middle of Wrong, featuring a horn soli reminiscent of band, Chicago. Poet friend, Lisa Jarvis, wrote the lyrics to Slippery Slope, which fueled the inspiration for a funkier sound. With enough tunes now to go into the studio, Krisanne picked the ace musicians she had been using in her Latin/jazz/funk outfit to lay down the tracks. Right in the Middle of Wrong marks a new high in this prolific artist's career. Recorded and produced with virtuoso guitarist Russ Brannon, sensational drummer Dave James and her new band, Solarocity, this full-length CD features Krisanne's catchy melodies, smooth vocals and full horn arrangements - a signature sound driven by a top-notch rhythm section.
