Manteca often became the high point of many a nightclub appearance - when he would emerge from the back of the bandstand to mesmerize the audience with his explosive conga playing. Leading a small but explosive Afro-Cuban combo, the master percussionist is captured here on these fine, rare recordings from the early 1960's.
