His gift for vivid theatricality, for lively, memorable melodies, and for rich characterization was allied to a mastery of dance rhythms. These qualities were augmented by his command of orchestral color. And yet early performances were disappointingly received. It was only after some structural and choreographic revisions in 1895, two years after the composer's death, that the work was fully appreciated for the masterpiece that it is. For four years Dmitry Yablonsky has been Principal Guest Conductor of Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra and has conducted many other orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, collaborating with leading soloists. He has made more than seventy recordings, many of them prizewinning, as conductor and cellist for Naxos.

Tracks:
1.1 Introduction
1.2 Scene
1.3 Waltz
1.4 Pas de Trois: Intrada
1.5 Pas de Trois: Allegro Semplice - Presto
1.6 Pas de Trois: Moderato
1.7 Pas de Trois: Allegro
1.8 Pas de Trois: Coda: Allegro Vivace
1.9 Dance of the Goblets
1.10 Finale: Flight of the Swans
1.11 Dances of the Swans: Tempo Di Valse
1.12 Dances of the Swans: Moderato Assai
1.13 Dances of the Swans: Allegro Moderato
1.14 Dances of the Swans: Andante - Allegro
1.15 Dances of the Swans: Coda: Allegro Vivace
1.16 Scene: Moderato
1.17 Allegro Giusto
1.18 Dance of the Corps de Ballet and Dwarves
1.19 Arrival of the Guests and Waltz
1.20 Mazurka
1.21 Scene: Allegro
1.22 Dance of the Cygnets: Moderato
1.23 Scene: Allegro Agitato
1.24 Finale

Audio Sample:
All soundclips are provided by Tidal and are for illustrative purposes only.
