The program features Schumann's best-known song cycle, Dichterliebe, and his most mysterious, Sechs Gedichte und Requiem. Schumann, believing mistakenly that the poet Lenau had died, added a requiem to the five settings. When word of Lenau's actual death reached Schumann on the day of the cycles first performance, the work became an eerie prophecy. Also included here is the Sechs Gesänge, dedicated to Swedish soprano Jenny Lind.
