Seventh Avenue's live gigs were always sold out with standing room only crowds enjoying the club scene's at Donte's, Carmelo's and was one of the top three finalist at the Playboy Jazz Festival competition. Leonard Feather of the LA Times stated, "POST-BOP BAND THAT THRIVES ON DRIVE, while other reviews from Bob Rusch of Cadence, Scott Yanow of Sound Choice, Goldmine, Brian Auerbach of Op, David Weiss of the Herald Examiner and A. James Liska of the LA Valley Daily News all raved about the band. CMJ music report also stated "... is in certain respects an older, West Coast equivalent to New York's Out of the Blue collective... turns in an impressive, aggressive album... "The following musicians rounding out this top notch hard charging group: Tom Garvin piano, Bob Sheppard tenor, Bobby Ojeda cornet, and John Patitucci on bass. It was a who's who band with Stephans who had performed and recorded with an array of jazz and other artists, including Bennie Maupin, David Liebman, Pharoah Sanders, Bob Florence, Bud Shank, The Rolling Stones, Cher, David Bowie, to name a few. Bob Sheppard was sideman with Freddy Hubbard. Bobby Ojeda, trumpet player with the Count Basie band, Stan Kenton, and Julie Kelly. John Patitucci, the award winning bassist. And finally Tom Garvin, the once brilliant composer, arranger and pianist for the Tonight Show Band, Don Ellis and singers that called Tom first to see if he was available for their gigs.
