French director Marcel Camus adapted the movie from Vinicius de Moraes's musical play Orfeu da Conceicao. More than just showcasing samba, Black Orpheus brought this music to life, making Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfa international stars. From the very opening title scene to the climactic Carnival parade, music pervades practically every moment of the film. This movie and it's soundtrack had a major role in leveraging bossa nova popularity outside of Brazil.
