Some of our most popular and enduring songs were written and recorded during that period, although the conflict itself washorrendous. In 1997 Take Two Records released a 2-CD set of songs actually recorded during World War 1 that were transferred from pristine vintage recordings and re-mastered to provide superb sound. This set includes 40 popular songs that reflect a variety of reactions to the Great War by the leading songwriters and recording artists from that time. This album is currently being reissued to commemorate the WWI centennial taking place this year.

Tracks:
1.1 It's a Long Way to Tipperary
1.2 Keep the Home Fries Burning
1.3 Madelon
1.4 There's a Long, Long Trail - John McCormack
1.5 Roses of Picardy - John McCormack
1.6 Pack Up Your Troubles in You Old Kit Bag - Reinald Werrenrath
1.7 I Didn't Raise My Boy to Be a Soldier - Morton Harvey
1.8 It's Time for Every Boy to Be a Soldier
1.9 Till the Clouds Roll By [From Oh Boy!] - James Harrod, Anna Wheaton
1.10 Oh Johnny, Oh Johnny Oh!
1.11 I'm Always Chasing Rainbows [From Oh Look!] - Charles Harrison
1.12 Will You Remember [From Maytime] - Raymond Dixon, Alice Green
1.13 Over There - Nora Bayes
1.14 Goodbye Broadway, Hello France
1.15 When Alexander Takes His Ragtime Band to France - Marion Harris
1.16 K-K-K-Katy - Billy Murray
1.17 When I Send You a Picture of Berlin - Arthur Fields, Peerless Quartet
1.18 Revoir But Not Goodbye Soldier Boy - Peerless Quartet
1.19 Till We Meet Again - Charles Hart, Lewis James
1.20 Smiles [From the Passing Show of 1918] - Lambert Murphy
2.1 Poor Butterfly [From the Big Show] - Fritz Kreisler
2.2 Memories - Paul Reimers
2.3 Just a Baby's Prayer at Twilight - Henry Burr
2.4 Hello Central, Give Me No Man's Land - Al Jolson
2.5 Good Morning, Mr. Zip-Zip-Zip - Arthur Fields, Peerless Quartet
2.6 Oh!
