They drew from a vast array of Roots music, including Folk, Blues, Jazz, R&R, R&B, Gospel, Country, Bluegrass and even Reggae, melding it into a unique fusion of Heavy Psychedelia. The Dead were particularly known for free-form improvisation in their live performances. Their early albums consisted of covers of artists like The Memphis Jug Band, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Jesse Fuller, The Mississippi Sheiks, Cliff Carlisle, Elizabeth Cotton, etc. This unique compilation presents the records that inspired many of the songs that they recorded, notably Tossi Aaron's 'I Know You Rider', Obray Ramsey's 'Rain And Snow', Blind Gary Davis' 'Death Don't Have No Mercy', Bill Browning's 'Dark Hollow', The Shelton Brothers' 'Deep Elem Blues'.

Tracks:
1.1 Memphis Jug Band - On The Road Again
1.2 Blind Lemon Jefferson - Deceitful Brownskin Blues
1.3 Tossi Aaron - I Know You Rider
1.4 Tampa Red - It Hurts Me Too
1.5 Jesse Fuller - Beat It On Down The Line
1.6 Sonny Boy Williamson - Good Morning, School Girl
1.7 Obray Ramsey - Rain And Snow
1.8 The Mississippi Sheiks - Sitting On Top Of The World
1.9 Noah Lewis' Jug Band - New Minglewood Blues
1.10 Cannon's Jug Stompers - Viola Lee Blues
1.11 Jimmy Reed - Big Boss Man
1.12 Memphis Jug Band - Stealin', Stealin'
1.13 Blind Lemon Jefferson - See That My Grave Is Kept Clean (Aka One Kind Favor
1.14 Blind Gary Davis - Death Don't Have No Mercy
1.15 Cannon's Jug Stompers - Big Railroad Blues
1.16 Cliff Carlisle - Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad
1.17 Bo Diddley - Who Do You Love
1.18 Lightnin' Hopkins - Katie Mae
1.19 Bill Browning - Dark Hollow
1.20 Howlin' Wolf - Smokestack Lightnin'
1.21 Mississippi John Hurt - Stack O'lee Blues
1.22 Elizabeth Cotten - Oh Babe It Ain't No Lie
1.23 Jesse Fuller - The Monkey And The Engineer
1.24 The Shelton Brothers - Deep Elem Blues
1.25 Howlin' Wolf - The Red Rooster
1.26 Big Bill Broonzy - C.C.
