"Vocolot's performance at the International Jewish Music Festival in Amsterdam was spectacular," said Grammy award winning trumpeter Frank London of the Klezmatics. "I got goose bumps!" From Delancey Street to the Appalachian Mountains, from the shtetls of Poland to the kitchens of Spain, the songs on Vocolot's newest CD, Vocolot at 25, bring forth a joyous celebration of love, light, justice and food. After 25 years, the internationally-renowned a cappella group, Vocolot, is still going strong in celebrating sisterhood and brotherhood, in Yiddish, Ladino, Hebrew and English. Cantor and musical director Linda Hirschhorn founded the group in 1987. Other Vocolot members appearing on this recording are Elizabeth Stuart, Shana Levy, Julia Bordenaro and Talia Cooper. Vocolot performs at music festivals, music clubs, colleges, synagogues, churches and other venues through the U.S. and in Europe. They also sing at interfaith gatherings and rallies for peace, social justice and worker's rights. Performance highlights include appearances at the 2008 and 2009 International Jewish Music Festival in Amsterdam, the 'Yiddish Divas' event at New York City's Lincoln Center, the Jewish Music Festival in Vancouver, and a collaboration with the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir in the Spring of 2012. Vocolot believes that holding one's own while singing in harmony is a paradigm by which people can survive - and thrive.
