He moved to Chicago at a young age and in the mid-1930s became a charter member of the Roberta Martin Singers. Webb was a virtuoso pianist and organist. In 1949, he formed a mixed group called the Willie Webb Singers, in which he did not usually feature himself as a lead vocalist. Webb and his group made their first records for Gotham, with four sides recorded in September 1950. A follow-up in March 1951 yielded another release on the same label. Because they were issued with green Parrot Records labels and most of label owner Al Benson's gospel activity took place in 1953, this is the best guess we can make about the date of this release. Climbing High Mountains b\/w God Is Good to Me feature a powerhouse contralto lead, joined by a second strong contralto on God Is Good to Me; unfortunately, she is not credited on the label.
