Rock Guitarist Nancy Wilson's First Solo Album 'You and Me' to be Released May 7th & Tribute to Eddie Van Halen

Heart guitarist & singer Nancy Wilson is coming out with a new solo album ‘You and Me’ on May 7th; though Wilson has been making music since 1972, having famously been the first ever female principal member of a rock band along with her sister, Ann, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013, this is her first solo album. Today, however, she released a single - 4 Edward - in tribute to friend and fellow-guitarist Eddie Van Halen who passed away in October - an acoustic piece, which Wilson explains the origin behind:

“When Heart toured with Van Halen I asked Eddie why he never played acoustic guitar, his response ‘I don’t have one.’” Wilson immediately rectified that situation. “I gave Eddie one of mine and he immediately wrote a song on it that stole my heart. After he passed, it hit me so hard I felt it was time to pay tribute to him.”

The album itself is backed magnificently by a team of veteran musicians; Dan Walker on keys, Ryan Waters on guitar, bassist Andy Stoller, Ben Smith on drums and a handful of other collaborators. Wilson produced the whole album herself, with some assistance from first engineer Matthew Sabin.

While the album includes several covers of her favorite songs, like Pearl Jam’s “Daughter,” Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Boxer” featuring Sammy Hagar, and a cover of the Cranberries’ “Dreams”, Wilson says that, “The other eight tracks are originals, mostly acoustic ballads, including a special song that captures the full spectrum of loss, love and redemption in one instrumental coda.”

I have always loved the music Heart and Van Halen has put out over many years.
Eddie Van Halen’s innovative and inspiring guitar playing style has inspired countless guitar players around the world to incorporate his style of playing into their own guitar playing, he will be forever hearalded as one of the guitar playing greats of all time. He will be greatly missed.
I heartily look forward to hearing Nancy Wilson’s tribute song to Edward Van Halen, and the entirety of her new solo album too.

I can’t wait to hear this album! I’ve followed you, Nancy, fir a long time and I’ve seen many of your live performances with Heart. You’re amazing! Silver Wheels will always be one of those special songs for me. I started playing Classical guitar in 1973 and you also must have taken a few lessons when you were young? Love that song and I’m looking forward to hearing your new ballads. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to the Rock world. I also read your book with Anne. Good reading! Thanks
