Formed in New York City in 1970, the Fatback Band drew it's inspiration and concept largely from the band's drummer, Bill Curtis, who wished to merge the "fatback" rhythms of New Orleans jazz and translate that feel into a funk band. Throughout the 1970s and 80s, The Fatback Band released a staggering 22 albums in less than 2 decades - spawning hits like "(Do The) Spanish Hustle," "I Like Girls," "Gotta Get My Hands on Some (Money)," and "Backstrokin." Some schools of thought cite their 1979 single "King Tim III (Personality Jock)" as one of the very first examples of hip-hop. The band became hugely popular during the disco era but primarily stayed true to their funk roots throughout their career with an uncompromising style. Billed as just "Fatback" for their 1987 remix single "(Feel The) Rhythm Of The Night," the band's sound here is pure electro-funk, and features production by longtime members Bill Curtis and Gerry Thomas. Originally released on the legendary Creative Funk label, all three 12" mixes are presented here newly remastered.
