12 classic albums: 1947 1962. Gordons earliest 12 albums with remasterd tracks and over 7 hours of music on 6 CD's! One of the finest tenor saxophonists to materialize during the bop era and carrier of his own idiosyncratic sound, Gordon was sometimes effusive and quoted markedly from other songs, but he shaped a large body of advanced work and could combat nearly anyone effectively at a jam session. His first important gig was with Lionel Hampton (1940-1943) although, due to Illinois Jacquet also being in the sax section, Gordon did not get any solos. In 1943, he did get to extend out on a recording session with Nat King Cole. This collection of 12 original LP's concentrate on Gordons early American years up until he left for Europe. His immortal status in Jazz's hall of fame was arguably solidified during this period, with some of his most impressive and progressive playing. With remastered tracks and over 7 hours listening time, this is a seminal volume on the works of one of the true titans of Jazz.
