The group you hear on this disc, who I call The Bluesicologists because of their deep love and knowledge of the many facets of blues, and I have been associated for the last three years- I have been making an annual trip to Paris to make music with them, all beginning with my introduction through fellow pianist Julien Brunetaud, who has previously and continues to occasionally perform with these fine gentlemen. Upon arriving at upright bassist Thibaut Chopin's home on Friday, we listened to music all day and into the night. One selection he played was guitarist Anthony Stelmaszack's new album- when I commented on the great sound, Thibaut informed me we could indeed record in the same fashion during my time in Paris. So we, along with reknown drummer Simon \'Shuffle\' Boyer played five dates in four days, Saturday through Tuesday- a matinee at the One Way, then later that evening followed by the next three nights at the legendary Caveau de la Huchette. This warmed us up for two days of relaxed recording on Wednesday and Thursday, capturing the kind of feeling that we reach as a unit. Friday morning had me on the train to Charles de Gaulle with memories of a very exciting and action packed week. Ricky Nye.
