The First Inspiration to record the work was Jobim's 80th Birthday on January 25th, 2007. And also the fact that it would fit perfectly with the projects of the new partnership between Adventure Music and Adnet Musica, whose main focus is precisely the rich Brazilian music that has always bubbled around here, but is not necessarily available in the U.S. market. Another strong reason is the fact that Jobim is one of the most recorded and studied composers in the U.S. It occurred to me that it would be nice to record some of Jobim's repertoire focusing on brass arrangements, with many improvistations and absolutely Brazilian in it's approach to rhythm and musical conception. Some new and old friends were invited to perform this task. To record an album like this, with Jobim's instrumental music, recorded in Brazil with Brazilian musicians, brass arrangements and the Brazilian 'sauce' will bring us back to a blending that started here in Brazil but had a short life in the beginning of the sixties. This blending was called the 'samba-jazz'. This modern Brazilian music that flourished in the late fifties and was marvelously represented by Jobim, changed Brazil and the International music scene, particularly when it became successful in the U.S. Revitalizing this exchange between the two countries is now the best thing that could be done to mark a new era with it's new forms of producing and distributing music all over the world.
