Felix Mendelssohn was a passionate organist. Whether in small churches or in majestic cathedrals - wherever he encountered one of these instruments, he had everything he needed. The complex pipe works enabled him to revel in the music of the past on the one hand, which was connected in a special way to the name and output of Johann Sebastian Bach, and on the other hand to let his own ideas have free reign just as his heart desired and to see what would come out of it. Christian Schmitt has recorded the results in impressive completeness on two instrumental works of art from Mendelssohn's time. Each of the three CDs contains two of the six sonatas, and also feature numerous miniatures with which the eternally young Felix mapped out his broad musical horizons.
