The New York City mainstay NOW Ensemble is dedicated to making new chamber music. With a unique instrumentation of flute, clarinet, electric guitar, double bass, and piano, the group increasingly focuses on work that fearlessly crosses boundaries of musical genre and artistic media. NOW Ensemble's recent collaborations span work with home-made electronics guru Dan Deacon to multimedia opera with producer Beth Morrison and Missy Mazzoli. Dreamfall, the ensemble's the fourth full-length album, follows the release of composer Mazzoli's opera Song from the Uproar in 2012 and is sprawling in scope and ambition, featuring seven composers. "[Dreamfall] is a state of immense freedom... The sounds on this record reflect this freedom, this sense of something a little out of our hands, and, beyond all else, the practice of making music that is NOW Ensemble." (NOW Ensemble composer/guitarist Mark Dancigers).
