Bo Square is the experimental breakbeat project from Mike Powell. His 'Outer Space Suite' ('Prelude to Bluss', 'Love in Outer Space', and 'Lost in Space') is a downtempo D&B jazz excursion featuring the brilliant and beautiful alto sax playing of Marshall Allen. Allen's legacy in Sun Ra Arkestra from 1950's to the present is one the most important in jazz history. Mike Powell had the honor of performing with him in Tyrone Hill's Deep Space posse in 1997 after sharing the stage with the Sun Ra Arkestra while touring with Meat Beat Manifesto. The experience was amazing. This 9:08 track is meant as a tribute to The Sun Ra Arkestra and Marshall Allen, as well as Duke Ellington, Claude Debussy, and the feeling of falling in love. Special guest Jack Dangers lends his pioneering astro-sonic capabilities on VCS 3, Mike Powell plays guitar, theremin, and minimoog. 162 BPM. The B-side is the mysterious 'Numbers'. An uptempo, moody breakbeat soundtrack which ponders the attempt to go back and seize the past. 139 BPM. 12' vinyl only. Release Date: October 31st, 2000.
