The Butcher Boy is Canadian folk musician Jesse Ferguson's fourth solo album. It includes songs from the Irish, English, Scottish and American traditions, as well as an original setting of Lord Byron's 1814 poem "She Walks in Beauty." Jesse's work is distinguished by rich vocals and harmonies, and a combination of traditional and contemporary folk styles. He performed all vocals, harmonies and instruments on the CD. The instruments include: acoustic guitar, mandolin, bodhran (frame drum), Jew's harp, glockenspiel, fife, tambourine, sandpaper block, and frying pan. This latest work presents the best of Jesse's lifelong exploration of traditional folk music, and displays his improved abilities in musicianship, arranging and producing. Jesse's goal is to make traditional music relevant to his twenty-first-century listeners, and The Butcher Boy honours that rich tradition while adapting it to the here and now.
