"Looking Glass" began in a very grass roots way. "At the encouragement of friends and family, I tried recording some of my own songs at home on a laptop just to see if I could do it, and to see if they sounded good," says Parker. Determined to learn more, she took a month off from her work as a therapist in Missouri to take a series of audio recording classes at Studio West in San Diego. Parker met veteran producer Marti Amado while at Studio West and hired her to produce the album. "Christine's really remarkable," says Amado. "Not only was her pitch spot on and her voice gorgeous, but her rhythmic time is so good that we could easily use top session players after her basic tracks were laid down and have the grooves feel tight and organic as if they all had played together. As soon as I heard her first song, I jumped at the chance to work with her," she adds. The singer-songwriter raised over $9,000 with an online Kickstarter campaign to help fund her recording costs and the manufacturing of her CD. Parker has been compared to the likes of Joni Mitchell, Jason Mraz, Shawn Colvin, and Colbie Calliat. Reflecting on how her work as a therapist helped shape her songwriting Christine says, "You can't help but be changed and affected by other people's stories and experiences, by sharing the weight of their suffering or the delight of their greatest joys. You face your own humanity when you are faced day to day with the humanity of others (the good and the bad). I think it is in those moments -- when you are grappling with your own humanness or the humanness of others -- that good songs are born."
