Since the day I was born in the backseat of a Chevy Blazer, I have sought to be different. It wasn't the discovery of my passion that made me pursue music, but the discovery of hope. I have loved music all my life and have been singing since I could speak, but the dream of pursuing music for my life seemed so far out of reach. After suppressing this dream for so long, in highschool I finally started to embrace it. It was my freshman year when I was asked to join a band. Two friends and I then went on to form 'Judge Karen' a folk/rock band that played local gigs and released a short album in 2010. Not long after this band broke up I came across Berklee College of Music and felt a comfort in my soul. There was hope. Having very little to no music theory knowledge and vocal training, I auditioned for Berklee the fall of my Junior year. A few weeks later I recieved an acceptance email AND a scholarship email. So there I was: graduating high school a year early, 17, and moving to Boston. I cannot imagine my life anywhere else, being accepted into Berklee has been such an incredible blessing. There are people like me, who understand me, and have found hope to follow their dreams like me. I am now going into my third year at Berklee as a vocalist and songwriter studying Music Business/Management. I have learned that with hope, dreams are possible! I continue to have hope in my life and in my future aspirations. I posted a kickstarter to fund this EP (that you are HOPEfully going to download) with a goal of $3000. My goal was surpassed. Hallelujah there goes hope again! & thus this project was made possible. Going back again to the roots of my music, my unique sound comes mainly from my lack of vocal instruction and my TMJ. My influences are all across the board. I listen and appreciate ALL music. I have been told many times that my sound resembles Jewel... You can judge that for yourself. I taught myself guitar and piano around my freshman year of high school. My songwriting has always been a hobby and an outlet for me. This EP I have released for you to take and listen to or cry to or dance to. It was made for you!! I want to provide music to people that can be relatable. I want my music to touch something inside you that makes you feel and give you an outlet if you don't have one! Every song on this EP was written from my heart during a time that I was either very happy or very sad. Here's an explanation of each song: 1. 'Virigina' was written earlier this year (2013) as an expression of hope. My boyfriend at the time moved to VA for school while I am in Boston for school. This song expresses that 'thousands of miles won't keep me from you.' I hope you can listen to it and feel hopeful. I hope that this song can help you through your relationships and life in general! 2. 'Raining In Boston' was written in the fall of 2012 when I was feeling very gloomy. This song has a very haunting sound with a locked in groovy, hip-hop-esque chorus. It is about being out of a relationship but that relationship still controlling you. How this person still is with you wherever you go, 'you've got this hold on me, I wanna be set free.' I hope this song can make you recognize that sadness in your heart and break free from it! 3. 'My Fear' was written in the fall of 2012 as well. I wrote this song at a point when I thought my relationship was coming to an end. I realized how scared I became in that moment, more scared than I have ever been. The song's verses list all different types of fears and says that 'I'm not scared of that' but then goes on to say 'THIS, losing YOU, is what i'm scared of!' 'I'm not scared of monsters under my bed... I've never understood the fear of heights..' I want you all to listen to this song and relate it to that one relationship in your life that you CANNOT live without, then tell that person how much you love them! We all are so blessed to have people in our lives that we are scared to lose. 4. 'Love's To Blame' was written in the summer of 2010. This is the song I auditioned for Berklee College of Music with and this song is very close to my heart. It is a song about heartbreak, just straight up heartbreak. When losing that one person we were just talking about in 'My Fear' and the helplessness that comes in this loss. The chorus cries, 'Come to me! Lay with me! Be with me! I love you! You used to, but something changed..' I hope you can relate to this song and I pray it brings release to you.
