Ensemble NeuRaum, founded and directed by the Carinthian composer Bruno Strobl, presents a range of new and newest Austrian music, including works of the award-winning composers Peter Jakober and Hannes Kerschbaumer. The ensemble is unique in it's combination of instruments: the core group includes - besides conventional orchestral instruments - zither, dulcimer and accordion, with the idea to enlarge the repertoire of those traditional folk music instruments and to re-establish them in art music. This is an exciting musical journey that aims to link tradition with the contemporary. Ensemble Neuraum consists of about 20 musicians who perform in changing ensemble makeups. The repertoire is growing steadily, and many composers have written new pieces for this special group. A composer in residence has written a new piece for the ensemble each year since 2010.
