One of the great soul n funk singers and songwriters of the 1960s and 70s, Vernon Harrell released several high quality singles during that era. Apart from his own solo career, Harrell replaced Billy Guy in the 1960s as a member of the iconic vocal group The Coasters, while Guy was busy working on a solo career. Here he teams with producer Joe René, who was responsible for production and arrangements for Bobby Lewis' big hit "Tossin' And Turnin'" and "My True Story," recorded by the Jive Five. The ultra-rare 1962 single presented here, "Slick Chick" b/w "Cold, Cold Heart," features a catchy bass line and funky Hammond organ on the A side track "Slick Chick," a tune written by René's talented wife, Malou René. The B side features a funky, laid back rendition of the Hank Williams mega-hit "Cold, Cold Heart." Long out of print, this rare gem has been newly remastered for this exclusive release, and finally made available in the digital domain.
