The small, New Jersey based Maple Records was a short lived label helmed by the legendary rock and soul music producer Johnny Brantley, the man who brought us such deep soul artists as Lee Moses, Gloria Barnes, The Chosen Few and The Ohio Players. None of the gems on Maple are as rare as the lone single from talented singer Snap Prescott, who delivered "Ain't No Way" b/w "It's My Love" in 1971. This seems to be the only recording from this mysterious artist and it follows the same pattern, style and quality of the other outstanding releases on Maple. Both tracks were written by the James Lewis, Marion Farmer and Edward Lewis partnership - and as with many sessions that Johnny Brantley produced, this is the same songwriting team that supplied many of the hits for The Ohio Players, The Chosen Few, Lee Moses, Herman Hitson, Gloria Barnes and others. The production is top quality, as are the sophisticated arrangements - complete with a full string and horn section and a well arranged vocal chorus. The singing is of a very high quality, deep southern soul reminiscent of such greats as Joe Simon, Johnnie Taylor and Otis Redding. The A side of the single, "Ain't No Way" is a searing ballad that shows off Prescott's powerful deep soul style - the B side, "It's My Love, " is a funky upbeat groover, punctuated with a great horn arrangement and a vocal chorus. This historic ultra rare single is presented here newly remastered and finally made available in the digital domain.
