On the Choir of Merton College, Oxford's album the Marian Collection, conductor Benjamin Nicholas draws from a collection of works written in celebration of the college's 750th anniversary. Featured here is a set of the four Marian antiphons, all specially commissioned from women composers, as well as premiere recordings of works by Gabriel Jackson and Matthew Martin. Peter Phillips takes the baton for Byrd's Salve Regina and John Nesbett's Magnificat, a piece whose neglect on disc is astonishing.
