Auntie Flo returns with his Theory of Flo masterpiece, his first release on Huntleys+ Palmers since 2012. Following his critically acclaimed 2012 Future RhythmMachine album, Theory of Flo is a bold step ahead, taking the listener on the tripof a lifetime spanning continents, genres, languages, and cultures to create awholly unique listening experience and one that's only possible in 2015. AuntieFlo created the album with long-term collaborator Esa Williams; Theory of Floalso features collaborations with the incredible Ghanaian singer Anbuley (whoappeared on Auntie Flo's 2014 Autonomous Africa hit "Daabi"), ShingaiShoniwa (Noisettes, The Matthew Herbert Big Band, Dennis Ferrer). Itwas recorded over a lengthy period between Havana, London, and Glasgow, withoutstanding results. Scratch the surface and it becomes clear that by interweavingthe rhythms and traditions of Africa and Latin America with more familiar westernclub sounds and four-to-the-floor electronic house music, Auntie Flo's interplanetaryprojects can break down barriers for fans on both sides of the electronic/worldmusic divide. Fans of Daphni, Débruit, or Spoek Mathambo are all tooaware of the tendency for media and critics to sub-categorize and pigeon-hole.Auntie Flo is building his own artistic response, one that re-energizes house musicand looks outward but is very much indebted to the vibrancy of the Glasgow clubscene. With regular appearances on the foremost underground dance music filterBoiler Room and a monthly show on Rinse FM, Auntie Flo has earned the respectto take the marimbas of West Africa and the palenque of Colombia to theunsuspecting.
