This Prophone double disc, covering most of the late Alice Babs career, reacquaints fans with this fantastic voice of Swedish jazz. Disc 1 focuses on songs sung in Swedish, disc 2 containing songs sung in English. One of Alice's many collaborators, Duke Ellington, composed several works in a sacred style especially for her. When these same works were performed without Ms. Babs, it took three different singers to cover the entire register. Alice Babs was named singer to the royal court in 1972, the first who had not come from an operatic background. Her final retreat from the stage came in 1980.
