1997 release. Recorded at l'Eglise Notre-Dame du Bon Secours, Paris September 8-10, 1997. Le Concert Spirituel conducted by Herve Niquet. Joseph Bodin de Boismortier was born in France in 1689 & became one of the first composers whose income depended on his ability to provide new works. He had no patrons & few of his scores were commissioned yet he was so prolific & his music was so frequently performed that he became wealthy. His group of divertissements, the Ballets de Village, was composed in 1734 & displays his ability to please the listener with simple charms.
