Heavyweight 180gm vinyl LP pressing of Coleman Hawkins Encounters Ben Webster. Both saxophonists were under contract with Norman Granz, and on October 15, 1957, Webster went into the studio with Oscar Peterson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown and Stan Levey to record his album Soulville. The following day, October 16, Coleman Hawkins did the same with a similar rhythm section (Alvin Stoller replaced Levey on drums) and taped his album the Genius of Coleman Hawkins. And then, later that night, Ben and Bean were reunited with Peterson, Brown, Ellis and Stoller to produce their first collaborative work since 1944. To the original seven tracks from the original LP we added 'Cocktails for Two' and a rare short version of 'La Rosita', both from the same session. Jazz Track. 2009.
