This CD is a reissue release of the incredible 1981 recording of Dick Wellstood at Hanratty's - a truly great pianist at one of the best piano bars in New York City at that time, playing one great tune after another. Originally issued on the ChazJazz label as a 2-LP set, these performances have been digitally remastered and are now available on one CD. As noted jazz critic Dan Morgenstern states in the liner notes, 'pure solo playing is the real test, and Wellstood is one of the true masters of this demanding art and craft'. With regard to this particular performance, he says, 'a shining hour and then some of Dick Wellstood at his finest. They don't come better.
