Singer/songwriter/pianist BILLY 'THE KID' EMERSON was one of Ike Turner's early 1950s discoveries, whom Ike took to Memphis and introduced to the mighty Sam Phillips at Sun Records. He also subsequently recorded for iconic labels like Vee Jay and Chess. Emerson's lasting fame largely rests on a handful of songs which were more famously recorded by other artists over the ensuing decades, notably the Rockabilly standard 'Red Hot', 'When It Rains It Pours', which Elvis Presley cut whilst he was at Sun, and 'Every Woman I Know (Crazy 'Bout Automobiles)', which was later recorded by both Sam The Sham and Ry Cooder. Although hitless, his own recording career nonetheless yielded a hugely impressive body of work, ranging from Blues, R&B and embryonic Soul. This compilation anthologises Emerson's singles releases between 1954-62, and includes his original Sun recordings of both 'Red Hot' and 'When It Rains It Pours'.
