2016 release. Juan Formell, a founding member of Los Van Van, passed away in May 2014. La Fantasía: Homenaje a Juan Formell is a tribute to him, being the first album released by the legendary Cuban orchestra now under the direction of his son Samuel, since the release of their previous album in 2011. This comeback album by Los Van Van is a statement in favor of Cuban traditions following the line of the singular Songo, the Afro-Cuban rhythm derived from the son and thus named by Juan Formell and the percussionist Changuito. Among the sound of violins and trumpets, and featuring compact structured but striking choruses, the orchestra, born in La Habana in 1969, release an album brimming with high quality sound and dynamism. La Fantasía features 14 songs including one, the title song, performed by Juan Formell himself before he passed away. He also wrote songs like "Se Vende", "Es Mucho" or "El Aparecido". In this great challenge for the band after the death of their founding member, Los Van Van also perform songs by prolific and popular Cuban songwriters, Roberto Hernández, Jorge Leliebre, Efraín Chibas Armando Cantero and Samuel Formell. Cuban music always remains popular and Los Van Van are it's best ambassadors and most outstanding standard bearers all over the world. With the release of La Fantasía, a new chapter starts for a rich and successful musical tradition.
