After returning from his stint with the Marines after serving in the Vietnam war, George Curtis Cameron, better known as G.C., joined the legendary Motown act, The Spinners, as lead singer. He sang both lead parts on their first big hit, 1970's It's a Shame, co-written and produced by Stevie Wonder, and remained with Motown as a solo artist when The Spinners departed Motown in 1971. Cameron left Motown after the 1970s, and toured as an independent artist. He recorded a critically-acclaimed album for Malaco Records in 1983 and his career was revived in 1989 by recordings for British record companies, and quickly became a favorite on the Northern Soul scene. He returned to The Spinners from 2000 to 2002 and recorded another solo album. Sometime in the late1990s, Cameron recorded a Hi-NRG version of It's a Shame for his growing UK fan base. On this unique release, we have taken Cameron's superb vocal from that session and have completely reconstructed and recreated the music and arrangement from the original early version, to create something entirely brand new. The new single features 5 exclusive mixes, including bonus instrumental and extended versions for this special release.
