Edward Burlingame Hill was an important member of a 'lost generation' of American composers during the first half of the twentieth century, highly regarded and performed by major orchestras and conductors during his lifetime, and virtually ignored ever since. In Hill's case this is especially strange, as he was also an important figure as a teacher, with an astonishing roster of students including Leonard Bernstein, Walter Piston, Roger Sessions, Randall Thompson, and more. These rarely heard- and even more rarely recorded- pieces are presented by pianist Donna Amato. Donna Amato was born in Pittsburgh, where she received her earliest musical training. She debuted with orchestra at the age of fourteen. Her concert and recording career has flourished in the last two decades, and both her live performances and recordings are widely praised by critics and audiences alike.
